Famous Person Speech Checklist
Speech Content (Minimum 3.5 minutes; maximum 6 minutes)
o Begins with a quotation that provides a link to what you will say about your famous person
o Explains Background (30 seconds to 1 minute)
o Shares Accomplishments and/or Awards (1-2 minutes)
o Reveals Impact (2-3 minutes)
o Ends with a memorable quotation
o Has a resources slide attached at the end
Visual Aids using PowerPoint software (Total mandatory slides = 5; maximum = 16 slides)
1. Opening slide with quotation and appropriate background
2. BACKGROUND Section slide with the word BACKGROUND and appropriate background
o Optional BACKGROUND section slides with pictures only -- no words (no more than three slides – however, you can put more than one picture on a slide).
3. ACCOMPLISHMENTS/AWARDS Section slide with the words ACCOMPLISHMENTS/AWARDS and appropriate background
o Optional ACCOMPLISHMENTS/AWARDS section slides with pictures only -- no words (no more than three slides – however, you can put more than one picture on a slide).
4. IMPACT Section slide with appropriate background
o Optional IMPACT section slides with pictures only – no words (no more than five slides – however, you can put more than one picture on a slide).
5. Closing slide with quotation and appropriate background
Resources Needed
1. Internet visual site (Google Images or AP Photo)
2. Hard copy or Ebscohost (http://www.aea267.k12.ia/media user: gccs267 password: aea267)
3. Interview (in person, email/text, telephone)
Process
o Decide on a famous person who has impacted your life and/or the lives of others
o Do a presearch to discover information
o Keep careful records of sources – see example of Resources slide on the back of this sheet
o Set up the PowerPoint software “storyboard” – design layout
o Find and save pictures – place on layout
o Research information for your speech – keep a careful record of your sources
o Take notes, write the speech, prepare appropriate speech prompts (notes page on PPT or note cards)
o Prepare the Resources Slide (see example on page 2 of this document)
o PRACTICE! PRACTICE! PRACTICE!
o Drop PowerPoint in khosch drop box Tuesday, October 13th
o Be prepared to present Speech Wednesday, October 14th
